The European tree frog (Hyla arborea) is a small, vibrant amphibian commonly found across Europe and parts of Asia, it is also considered native to the UK but now extinct in the wild.

. Below is a brief care sheet and some information about this species:

*General Information:**

-

-Size:** 3.5 - 5 cm (1.4 - 2 inches)

-Lifespan:** 5-10 years in captivity

-Distribution:** Europe, parts of Asia, and northwestern Africa

-

**Habitat:**

Found in woodlands, meadows, gardens, and near water sources like ponds and marshes.

**Care Sheet:**

*Enclosure:**

- **Size:** A vertical terrarium of at least 20 gallons is recommended for a small group. Tree frogs are arboreal, so height is more important than floor space.

- **Substrate:**

Use a moisture-retaining substrate like coconut fiber, sphagnum moss, or a soil mix. Avoid gravel or anything that can be accidentally ingested.

- **Decor:** Provide plenty of plants (live or artificial), branches, and hides to mimic a natural environment.

-Temperature

Maintain daytime temperatures between 15-26°C and a slight nighttime drop to 12 -20°C

- **Humidity:** Keep humidity between 50-80%. Mist the enclosure daily to maintain humidity levels, but avoid over-soaking to prevent mold.

- **Lighting:** Use low-intensity UVB lighting (5.0) to support their natural light cycle and vitamin D3 synthesis. Provide 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.

**Diet:**

Feed a variety of live insects, such as crickets, fruit flies, small roaches, and moths. Make sure the prey is appropriately sized (no larger than the distance between the frog's eyes).

- **Supplements:** Dust food with calcium and vitamin supplements 2-3 times a week, especially if not using UVB lighting

### **Behavior and Temperament:**

- European tree frogs are generally shy but active, especially during the night. They are excellent climbers and can be quite vocal, especially males during the breeding season.

**Breeding:**

- **Breeding Season:** Typically from May to june. Males call to attract females.

- **Egg-laying:** Females lay eggs in water, which hatch and take 2 to 3 months to metamorphose into frogs.

European tree frogs are beautiful and relatively easy to care for, making them a good choice for both novice and experienced amphibian keepers. Proper care ensures a healthy and active frog that can live up to 15 years.
